Stay away from Habanera restaurant Visited: December 2003 |

This review is of the restaurant alone: across the street from the beautiful resort is a Mexican restaurant called Habanera, owned by Robert's Grove. This was THE most horrific dining experience I have ever encountered. Waited 2 hours for our meal. In a party of 5: 2 of the meals were wrong. I was told "the chef made this by mistake but I could have it." I was then charged for this very expensive meal I did not order and was told I shouldn't have eaten it. One meal was completely forgotten. The "Chef" came out to the table, not to apologize, but to scold us for not appreciating how busy his evening was. To top all this off, the food was mediocre, at best.
When informed, the owners seemed unconcerned. |

If you wish to relax in southern Belize or are a scuba diver, the Inn at Robert's Grove is a great place to establish a base of operations.
The resort scored high points with my wife and me for the room (large and very pleasant) - recommend an upstairs unit - and the service. The staff at the resort was very friendly and approachable, making one feel right at home.
Food was also good with large portions. Don't plan on a diet when eating at the resort!
Scuba diving was generally well-run. Since the reef was pretty far from shore, all dives were two tanks with the dive trip taking approximately 90 minutes to get to the site. If you wanted to do other things during the day, I recommend northern Belize for diving. Sites were good, nonetheless.
The Inn also arranged outside excursions to the Jaguar preserve and to Mayan ruins, for example. It had a nice beach with sailing, windsurfing, and snorkeling available.
If you are in southern Belize, we highly recommend the resort. |

A Great Four Nights Visited: December 2001 |

We stayed here for four nights just before Christmas and had a very nice time. The food was excellent and the rooms were very nice. However, the service from the wait staff could be better.
Hurricane Iris had just come through a few months earlier, but the property had almost fully recovered. One day we did have a problem with the electricity, but to compensate for our discomfort, the owners paid the bar bill for everyone that evening.
The owners, who live on-site, were in the process of expanding this inn/resort to include a new restaurant and a dive shop on the lagoon. This should make the property an even better destination.
While there were many couples here, the resort seemed to cater to large families from New York City. |

We brought our children with us, and we all had a ball. The guide (on staff at Robert's Grove) who took us snorkeling was accommodating and knowledgable. The scenery was breathtaking and our stay was totally relaxing. This is a great place to stay if you want to get away from it all without giving up comfort and a little pampering! We'll definitely go back.
